Father’s Day

Setting aside all of the commercialism surrounding Father’s Day, the purchasing of gifts, cards, cakes, etc.., it provides us a wonderful opportunity to reflect.

For myself, working with my father for 45 years provided me some interesting insights and perspectives.

I was blursed, (my word for blessed and cursed at the same time), by getting to know every aspect of my Dad. Along with that, he did the same with me.

I learned to appreciate the imperfections of my Dad. We were literally in the trenches together trying to keep a business idea alive. I saw him worry, laugh, get angry, be generous to others, take risks, try hard to live a Christian life and be a leader, and be frustrated yet grateful.

So many things we have right beside us in life develop their full value and appreciation once they are gone. We tend to gain so much more of a clear perspective and appreciation with absence.

This Father’s Day I want to encourage you to go inside yourself and find a few of those things and say them to your Father, whether they are still with you or gone home. I still talk to mine, and I am convinced that one of the gifts of memory is he still talks to me.

Have a wonderful Father’s Day!
