The Value of Feeling Heard

Have you ever just wished that someone heard you? I mean, really heard you.

Many times, I find myself frustrated (disappointed) because people I spend money with for their services or products just don't hear me.

Sure, we have the meeting, or the phone call. Then they say "sure we can, we will get back to you on that, you can trust us"... and other various statements. From there, I trust that they will do what they say, and I go to the next thing with assurance and trust in them really doing what they tell me.

Then the disappointment and reality sets in. I have to call, leave messages, listen to them tell me their cat died, the car had a flat tire, etc..., all the while I am still not getting what I need to move forward and fulfill my commitments to others.

It is so refreshing, and rare to find that person who makes the promise, keeps the promise and even says thank you at the end.

Being heard is very important. For me, it is one of the building blocks in building a trust-based relationship.

My dad always told me to be honest with people. Even when the truth isn't going to be what someone wants to hear, they will know they can rely on you and trust in you.

Hearing someone, acknowledging the importance of what they are saying, and keeping the connection through keeping your commitment to them is invaluable.

I strive continually to work on doing this better each day.

Have a great day,

GP
