Being Thankful for What We Don’t Have

Sometimes giving thanks involves being grateful for what we don’t have.  There are two types of blessings; the ones we receive and the ones we never receive.

When my oldest son was age 11, he would pray every night for a Mustang convertible.

Imagine what it would have been like if he had received a Mustang convertible. Not to mention how much insurance would have been, his feet wouldn’t even touch the pedals.

He ended up with a small trail bike instead which was a much better fit, safer and more fun.

I remember trying to explain that sometimes not getting what you want is the blessing. Like us sometimes, it took a while for that to be acceptable.

Thanksgiving is a time to give thanks. Typically for the blessings we have received and experienced, but just as importantly, for the blessings that come from not receiving at times.

I hope you will enjoy your Thanksgiving holiday and give thanks for both.

To everyone, Happy Thanksgiving!
