‘Twas the Night Before Christmas…

‘Twas the night before Christmas at our house. I had just turned 10.

Laying in my bed wondering what would be under the tree in the morning there were feelings of excitement mixed with disappointment.

I had asked for a blue minibike and my Dad had already told me that it would be a big stretch for Santa that year. I fell asleep wondering about the possibility of Dad being wrong yet prepared for whatever happened.

I was awakened at midnight by the smell of gasoline in the house. Do I dare go look or do I just lay there in anticipation? I didn’t look and I didn’t sleep either.

That morning, I ran straight to the den to find my minibike by the tree! I will never forget the feelings of anticipation and excitement.

I will also never forget finding out later what a sacrifice my Dad had made to make that happen for me.

I will always have a special place in my heart for all of the many ways he showed me through the years the joy that comes from putting someone else first above yourself.

I hope this Christmas provides you with an opportunity to experience that joy of giving. It is truly that greatest gift you never receive!

Merry Christmas to you!
