The Internal Rewards of Hard Work
Labor Day provides us with a day to pause and be reminded of the value of work.
Have you ever taken on a project that might have been outside of your area of expertise, and your comfort zone?
You know that inner satisfaction that comes from looking at the finished project and that inner “Yeah, I did that”?
Chances are it will never be something that the world will even know about, but inside us we grow a little and get to have that internal reward for our labor.
Labor Day is a holiday that is set aside to remind us to appreciate all of those who are out there doing a job that helps make things work but may never gain the applause or attention that it deserves.
What a great time to remind us to say thanks!
Thanks to the trash pickup, thanks to the HVAC tech, thanks to the farmers, and to so many others who do the work that is so valuable to all of us quietly and humbly because they get the internal reward.
There are on stage roles, backstage roles, and off-stage roles that make things happen for all of us.
I hope you will take a moment to say Thanks to someone who quietly goes about their day doing the tasks required by them. And don’t forget to give yourself a “Yeah” for those unnoticed things you do just because you care.
Happy Labor Day,
GP
